First of all the staff (Fred?) was super friendly well beyond what you typically get from a "professional friendlyness" in other hotels. Upfront all my questions asked via Booking.com chat were answered very quickly and friendly. During checkin and checkout we had some nice chats and inbetween I saw him kidding with some guest's kids during breakfast hours. Makes you really feel at home. Speaking of which: The breakfast "room" is some space in the lobby which is not quite big enough to host a lot of guests. But during our stay we always found a place to eat. The breakfast itself is typical US style so its not much but it has everything you need. Also the breakfast hours are not as strictly as they are printed. I also saw some families arriving late at the breakfast and the staff then also happily refilled the pancake machine for them. The hotel also offers a laundry room for you so for 3,5 $ you get a load of whashing machine, dryer as well as detergents. After that you have your clothes clean and dry. Pretty cool if you are on an extended road trip. Now, I've read some comments about the parking lot. Well they offer parking and have two different spots. One for larger vehicles and one for the average size vehicle. The entrance to the second one is a bit small yes, but no problem for a standard driver in my opinion. The location of the hotel is great. There is a grocery in walking distance (8 minutes) and the metro station is 2 minutes walk. With the metro you can go to Santa Monica beach without 15 minutes, to downtown within 40 minutes and to Hollywood within 60 minutes. A daypass is about 3,5 $. Pretty nice and much cheaper than Uber. There are two pools as well. Not very big but suitable. The smaller one is a hot whirlpool. Having been in the area a couple of times and knowing other hotels there I got a lot more than what I expected from this hotel.

- Location: One of the prime reasons we booked this hotel for our 4-night stay. It's just a block from the Metro Expo Line connecting Downtown LA to Downtown SA. Travel was convenient to & from the airport via Culver City Bus 6. Uber was also easily available. There are several restaurants & convenience/grocery/pharmacy stores nearby and within the walking distance. - Management: On the 2nd day of our stay, we met the owner who also happened to be from India. It was a lovely interaction. He gave us very helpful recommendations on where to visit for shopping, and it was indeed the best advice. - Reception: The front desk guy was very courteous and jolly. He assigned us the first room in the main building which was literally 5 steps from the lobby/dining area as soon as we arrived. - Budget: The hotel was well within our budget considering the prices of hotels around the Downtown SM area. We simply needed a place to stay as we were out most of the day. However, the room size really surprised us, and the continental breakfast was a nice inclusion. - Amenities: The room had all the basic amenities as mentioned on the listing while booking. Housekeeping was also done as requested on the same day. On-demand toiletries were brought without any delay. Overall it was a good stay and worth the price paid. If we ever visit LA again, we will definitely consider Royal Place Inn.

The room was fine, third building second floor. Our stay was booked for 5 days so we had a fair amount of bags. They did have a luggage cart available but there wasn’t any way to get it to the second floor. The stairs were long and kind of steep. Our room overlooked the back parking lot where there appeared to be a great deal of activity nightly around a white van. It was nice and quiet anyway. Specific parking slots are not assigned to each room so it was a search every time. One night the only space was in the underground area and it was creepy. There was a person sitting in the dark in a dark green BMW… hmm, wonder why. Eventually, we saw that parking on the street was safest. The hotel was not in a bad area, just on a busy street. The “free breakfast” was a lunch bag with a variety of cheap items. (I saw on some site that if you booked with breakfast included, it was an additional $30+ per day.) While it’s understandable that they took safety measures during COVID, they could have done a much better job on the contents of the daily breakfast “bag”. There was only one ice machine for the property but each room did have a refrigerator and coffee maker. The towels were average and the bedding and pillows were good.

Conni

Everything in the room worked perfectly: Internet, safe, electricity, plumbing, AC, and the linens (sheets and towels) are impeccable. The hotel serves a very fine breakfast and eating at a table by the pool is lovely. In addition, the staff is friendly, helpful and prompt to reply to all questions. The neighborhood isn't ideal but Sawtelle Japantown is within walking distance and Santa Monica is just a 10 minute drive away.

Breakfast was awesome. Great selection of cereal, fruit, pancakes, eggs and sausage patties. Kids loved the pancake machine that cooks them to order in particular. Room was clean, if a little dated. Close to the metro for transport around LA, just be warned that there are fairly sketchy characters that will be riding with you.
